ThinkQuest国際コンテストへの日本からの参加促進を目指して

特定非営利活動法人 学校インターネット教育推進協会（JAPIAS）と
米国オラクル教育財団がパートナー契約を締結


米国カリフォルニア州レッドウッドショアーズおよび東京、2004年7月1日発：特定非営利活動法人 学校インターネット教育推進協会（理事長：石田晴久）は、このたび、ThinkQuest国際コンテストへの日本からの参加促進と支援を目的として、オラクル教育財団（Oracle Education Foundation）とパートナー契約を締結しました。

ThinkQuest国際コンテストには、世界中の生徒がチームを組んで参加し、各チームはメンバー間で協力をしながら、教育的なWebサイトを制作します。受賞チームは、オラクル社のテクノロジーカンファレンスである「オープンワールド」の期間中に4日間にわたって開かれるThinkQuest Liveに招待されます。また、多くの提出作品は、毎月何百万ものユーザーが利用する教育リソースであるThinkQuestライブラリー（http://thinkquest.org/library/index.html）にて公開されます。

JAPIAS理事長の石田晴久は、「ThinkQuestの参加者は、チームワークやリサーチスキルなど、教育的に重要なだけでなく、将来社会へ出てからも役に立つ能力を身につけることができます。ThinkQuestは、プロジェクト型の協働学習において 生徒のやる気を引き出す大変有効な方法といえます。」とコメントしています。

ThinkQuest国際コンテストは年に2回開催され、参加チームは、約6ヶ月間で作品を完成させます。9歳から19歳の生徒が、3名から6名でチームを結成し、コーチの指導のもと作品制作を行います。制作されたWebサイトは、コラボレーションやチームワーク、地域社会や国際社会との関係、内容およびデザイン、教育的価値、技術力という観点から必要な基準を満たしていなければなりません。

オラクルエデュケーションイニシアティブ バイスプレジデントのローリ・フェイシーは、「JAPIASとのパートナーシップにより、日本の生徒や教師がThinkQuestコミュニティにとって重要な一員となってくれることと思います。また、我々が協力することで、ThinkQuestコンテストの重要な目的である、国を超えたコラボレーションを推進し、生徒たちのグローバルな思考や異文化理解の手助けになることができるでしょう。」とコメントしています。

ThinkQuestはオラクル教育財団のプログラムです。9歳から19歳の生徒達に教育的なWebサイト作りへの参加を呼びかけることによって、プロジェクト型の協働学習を推進しています。1995年の開始以来、125ヶ国から10万人を超える生徒および教師がThinkQuestに参加し、世界でもっとも成功した教育プログラムのひと つとなりました。現在、生徒が制作した5,000以上ものWebサイトがThinkQuestライブラリーにて公開されています。このライブラリーは、無料の公開リソースとしてオラクル教育財団により運営され、毎月何百万ものユーザーによって利用されています。

JAPIAS and The Oracle Education Foundation
Establish Partnership to Promote ThinkQuest in Japan


REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., and TOKYO, Japan, July 1, 2004 - The Japan Association for Promotion of Internet Application in School Education(JAPIAS) and the Oracle Education Foundation have signed an agreement to promote and support ThinkQuest in Japan. Through ThinkQuest, teams of students from around the world collaborate to create educational Web sites. Winning teams will attend ThinkQuest Live, a four-day event held during Oracle Corporation’s flagship technology conference, OpenWorld. Most entries to the competition are published in the ThinkQuest Library, a highly popular educational resource visited by millions of users every month, at http://thinkquest.org/library/index.html.

　　　“Students who participate in ThinkQuest learn valuable lessons, such as teamwork and research skills, important in their education and later careers”, said Mr. Haruhisa Ishida, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JAPIAS. “ThinkQuest is a great way to motivate and engage students in collaborative project-based learning.”

　　　ThinkQuest competitions are held twice a year, and competing teams have approximately six months to complete their projects. Students, ages 9 through 19, work in groups of 3 to 6 children, coached by a teacher. Their Web sites must meet demanding criteria that focus on collaboration and teamwork, community and global connections, content and design, educational value, and technical performance.

　　　“Our partnership with JAPIAS will allow students and teachers in Japan to become an integral part of the ThinkQuest community,”said Oracle Education Initiatives Vice President Lori Facey. “By working together, we can further the program's primary goal of encouraging multinational collaboration to help students think globally and understand different cultures.”
